FORESTRY LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT OPPORTUNITY

 

Nuxalk Development Corporation (NDC), located in Bella Coola, on the beautiful West Coast of British Columbia, is seeking an experienced and motivated Registered Professional Forester (Association of B.C. Forest Professionals) to join their progressive and team-oriented forest management group, in the position of:

 

FORESTRY MANAGER

 

Reporting to the NDC General Manager, the primary responsibilities of the Manager / Forester will be taking a lead role in managing the Forestry Program for the NDC on behalf of the First Nation.  This will involve close work with the Nation’s Integrated Resource Office.

Responsibilities include:

·  Developing a forest strategy including consultation with First Nation Members

·  Preparing and implementing large-scale coastal and interior logging programs, including engineering, “stump to dump” logging and silviculture programs

·  Identifying opportunity to work with other organizations with their FSP and development of a FSP for the First Nation, if required

·  Assisting in the preparation of Operational plans, Higher-level plans, proposals / applications, and license documents

·  Working in remote areas of BC, occasionally in camp situations and using multiple modes of transportation, including ATVs, wheeled vehicles, boat, fixed and rotary wing aircraft

·  Supervising staff and workers as needed and as related to the Forestry program

·  Assisting the NDC in securing fibre for the value added wood operations

Requirements and Qualifications:

·  Bachelor of Science in Forestry or Natural Resources, with an MBA or an Engineering Degree an asset

·  Must be a Registered Professional Forester in British Columbia, in good standing

·  Five (5) or more years coastal forestry experience with a minimum of four (4) years at the professional level

·  Experience working in remote areas with logistical challenges and fiscal constraints

·  Previous experience working with First Nations is an asset

·  Good working knowledge of current legislation

·  A real team player with excellent management and leadership skills

·  Excellent oral and written communication skills

·  An understanding of the Ecosystem Based Management framework is crucial
